We are in the middle of some exciting times on the basketball court!

All of our teams have been doing really well, this year.  It’s amazing that our small school has enough players to field two teams for both the Grade 6/7 boys, and the Grade 6/7 girls.  Players were divided evenly based on skill level, and our coaches and sponsors have been teaching them lots about the game.  Each of the four Grade 6/7 teams is undefeated so far!  We’ve had lots of parents coming out to watch, and the energy and support in the community has been amazing!
Our Grade 8 girls and boys have also been doing very well.
The grade 8 boys had a successful regular season, placing 3rd out of 5 teams.  And recently they’ve stepped up their play and have won their first two play off games!  This Monday, Feb 10th, the grade 8 Boys will play Shuswap Middle School for the North Zone Championship!  If they win, they will host the next playoff game for the north and south at PVSS on Thursday, February 13th!  Their hard work and commitment to early morning practices all season, is finally paying off.  I think the boys are excited to try for another upset win on Monday!  Good luck, boys.  Game time is 6:30 p.m at SMS for anyone who wants to come cheer them on.
Our grade 8 girls had a great season, too.  Despite having only a handful of committed players, they managed to compete with all the teams.  Their season finished with a very close playoff game last week against AL Fortune, where they lost by 2 points.  Congratulations, girls, on being resilient and having a great season!
We hope to see some more spectators at all of our remaining games.  Grade 6/7 boys play on Wednesdays after school, and the Grade 6/7 girls play on Thursdays.  There is a schedule posted in our gym.
Lastly, our successes this year wouldn’t be possible for all the amazing coaching and sponsorship.  We wish to send a HUGE THANK-YOU to the following volunteers:
Ms. Holt, Mr. Poirier, Mrs. Poirier, Heather Mason, KArmyn GArroway, Kirsten Isaac, Candace and John Riemersma, Mr. Matthews, Danny Butler, and Mr. Hryniw. Mr. O’Brien and Ms. Turner have been a ref!
There is so much interest and commitment from a very dedicated bunch of student-athletes, as well as coaches and sponsors.
