Mr. Lutes Takes Recycling To a New Level at LWMS!

Posted on 2022-03-13 08:00:00 +0000 UTC

We have quite a recycling system at LWMS. One of our teachers, Steve Lutes, designed our amazing recycling program!

Each class collects compost, single-use plastics, paper, juice boxes etc, and garbage, then put them into their designated bins. In the hallways, we have the same set up as well as a bin for styrofoam.

Each class has a class rep that dumps from the classroom bins into the hallway bins. Once a week, bins are cleaned. Two grade eight boys count the cans brought in and take out the hallway bags to the front door.

Mr. Lutes takes the items the district doesn’t pick up downtown to Armstrong depot each week!

Mr. Lutes has designed a classroom pro type for a compact way to have all bins available.

Our custodians cannot believe the reduction in garbage. Our smallest bins are now used for our garbage! Mr. Lutes spends time meeting with the class reps and giving them incentives for being such awesome green ambassadors. Thank you Mr. Lutes for your dedication to this program!

This shows the small amout of garbage we collect at LWMS!
