TERRY FOX MARATHON OF HOPE

Posted on 2020-09-17 07:00:00 +0000 UTC

This year is the 40th Anniversary of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope and  LWMS  is proud to be continuing the legacy of one of our greatest heroes. We are aiming to run the distance Terry covered over four days: September 22-25 in laps around our school! Please join us and support this wonderful cause by donating to: http://www.terryfox.ca/LenWoodMiddleSchool. Together, we can all make a difference! #terryfoxschoolruns @terryfoxfoundation

Len Wood Middle School Plan

Terry Fox said, “We need your help. The people in cancer clinics all over the world need people who believe in miracles,” he wrote. “The running I can do, even if I have to crawl every last mile.”

This is also a time where we need a renewed belief in miracles. Together, we can make a huge difference – and build commUNITY at the same time!
Len Wood Middle School is taking on the herculean task to equal the distance that Terry ran from St. John’s, Newfoundland to Thunder Bay, Ontario: 5373 km. That’s roughly 384km per division.

Main Event: Equal Terry’s run.
Week of Tuesday 22 to Friday 25 September 2020

Every morning, we will share our progress on completing Terry’s run with
students and update the community at the end of the week. You will likely see students running laps of our school all week! Please encourage them along with this! Classrooms will also do a number of other activities in their classes including showing videos, running classroom events and activities, and asking, “What’s your 40?” inviting us to take on a personal or class challenge.
Fundraising: Given the pressures we have been under as a community this year, we are not having fundraising activities in school, but we do encourage community members to contribute if they can! The fight against cancer doesn’t know COVID!
Feel free to contribute here: http://www.terryfox.ca/LenWoodMiddleSchool
Thank you for supporting us with our EXTREME challenge to “Run like Terry” for his 40th Anniversary! This community is resilient and powerful!
